Custom Office Furniture Desk
Your new desks will be custom-made, which means they should be much more comfortable for you and your staff members. The biggest reason for ordering custom-designed office desks is so that you experience fewer repetitive stress injuries. Order ergonomically designed desks. These are the healthiest for you to sit at as you work during the day.
Make Desk Design Fit Your Body
How many times have you sat at a desk that was too big or small for you? How did you feel at the end of the day? You probably had aches and pains you didn’t want to experience. If your computer monitor was too far away from your eyes, you probably have an eye strain headache.
You shouldn’t have to cram yourself into a too-small space or stretch to reach a needed item. Here are the ideal ergonomic conditions you should work under:
º Rest your feet on the floor or footrest
º Your computer screen should be about 24 to 36 inches away from your eyes. The top of the screen should be at or below your eye level
º Your chair should be reclined just slightly so your spine doesn’t get too much pressure
Ergonomic Desk Design
As you sit at your desk, your feet should rest comfortably on the floor. Your chair has much to do with this. Place your hands on your keyboard. Are your forearms parallel to the floor? If not, a keyboard tray may help out.
Order keyboard trays for each desk you’re ordering so your staffers can arrange their keyboards for themselves. During the ordering process, each employee should sit at several desks to find the one that fits their sitting heights best. Again, this means their forearms should be parallel to the floor when they are doing computer work.
You should reach for desk drawers to see if you can reach them easily. Are they easy to open? Have your employees do the same.
Working in a Company Office
Don’t forget about new office chairs as you’re working on ordering customized office desks. If the money is in the budget, order comfortable, ergonomic chairs that are correctly sized for everyone in your office.
Have every staff member choose the desk height and chair height that works best for them. After all, they are going to be sitting at their desks five days a week, eight hours a day. They should be physically comfortable.
Working at Home
If you run your business from home, a custom-made desk is just as important. You probably spend long hours several days a week at your desk. Why run the risk of avoidable stress injuries?
Plan to spend a little more for a good, ergonomic desk chair. If the funds aren’t there right now, keep your old chair and add one or two pillows for comfort and height. If your desk is too low, buy a set of risers and place one under each leg of your desk. As you do so, make sure the computer will be at the correct height for your eyes.
